Nandhi Hills

Place : Nandhi Hills,Bangalore.
Date : 02-12-2007

Saturday morning i got a call from Parthi,"mahe..will go somewhere tomorrow"... I was thinking of going to Sringeri since last two months... The distance was bit high and we didnt book the ticket also. So,that plan went for a toss. I checked the book 52 weekends from bangalore by outlook magazine. The book was well written with all the descriptions which a traveller would seek desperately. Finally we decided to go to nandhi hills which was around 70kms from bangalore. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nandi_Hills,_India

Myself and Elango went to parthi's room and started to collect the miscellaneous for the trip. We took the camera of Parthi which had 12x optical zoom with 10+MP. We started at 3'O clock exactly from ejipura. We were four of us(Prasanth, Parthi, Elango and Myself). The route was not much confusing even though we were going for the first time.

How to go from Koramangala : Cross the Airport flyover and take the straight road towards Indra nagar. you will end up in the Old Madras Road. After filling the fuel in The Shell, we took the outer ring road road. It escorted us to the hebbal flyover in short time and we took a right turn to hyderabad road. The temperature would have been around 15'C i guess. It was so much freezing, that my whole body was shivering. We were travelling in a virtual road(?) that was not viewable at all. Full of mist and dust. Our only aim was to reach the base before dawn. And we did. The Man of the Match of that journey was "The Road". It was the Hyderabad national highway with smooth traffic. You should cross yelehanka followed by devanahalli. New bangalore International Airport is the upcoming project in devanahalli.

At the nandhi hills :

I was expecting that Nandhi hills would be greater than tiruchengode hills at least. It was not. But it was unique in a way. We reached nandhi hills exactly at 5.30am(Big Applause). We saw some descent crowd waiting before us for the gate to be opened. After buying the entrance ticket, we were waiting at the entrance for some time. Prospects were bleak for a bright sun. After a very long hectic traffic period at Bangalore, the fresh clean air at nandhi hills penetrated our lungs . The mood was vibrant.

That was a great dawn. The first rays fell on the earth with new hopes and expectations. It was cloudy. Photography session was going around for some time with different poses but same faces. All together, that was good time to be there at early morning. We went inside the forest for some time and started our way back around 7'O clock. I felt proud when i saw the chola temple at the top of nandhi hills. The temple was built around 12th century by rajendra chola I. There is guest house in the hills. Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Queen Elizabeth have visited this hill station.

This place was once a summer resort of Tipu Sultan. You can see the ruined walls and sculptures around the hills. All in all(Goundamani Dialogue?) the hill station was good. If you miss the sun rise, then the nandhi hills is not a good option i would say.

Birth Place of the legend :

We started around 9am and took a deviation to muddhenahalli. This is the birth place of the great Vishveshwaraya. He was once the diwan of mysore city and karnataka person of the century. Vidhan Saudha is one of his master pieces. A must see place.

Nandhi Hills is a good option for a week end break from bangalore if and only if you reach there before the sun rise. Buses are also available from KSRTC.
